Consent, opt-outs, and staying compliant
You are the sender. Vereli is the tool you send with — which means the consent obligations are yours, and Vereli's job is to make them hard to breach by accident.
Who Vereli will message
Only a customer who gave you their number and agreed to marketing, through your own Shopify checkout.
Vereli does not message anyone who:
- did not give consent, or whose consent state is unknown
- has opted out, ever, of anything from your store through Vereli
- has no valid Australian mobile number
Absence of a "no" is not a yes. If Shopify reports no consent record, Vereli treats that as no consent, not as permission.
The checks that run before every message
Nine, every time, with no way to skip them:
- Your store is active and sending is on
- Your subscription is active
- The conversation is not already finished
- The customer has not opted out
- Consent is current
- It is inside quiet hours in the customer's timezone
- The message budget for this conversation is not spent
- Sending is not going too fast for the carrier
- This exact message was not already sent in the last 24 hours
If any fails, the message does not send. Rules 6 and 8 delay; the rest stop.
These are not settings. You can make them stricter — narrower quiet hours, fewer messages — but nothing in the app switches them off.
Opt-outs
A customer replies STOP (or any common variant) and Vereli stops immediately and permanently, and confirms.
Three things worth knowing:
- It is checked before anything else. The opt-out is recorded before Vereli works out what to say, so a failure elsewhere cannot let a message through to someone who said stop.
- It survives everything. Uninstalling, reinstalling, data deletion — the opt-out is kept as a one-way fingerprint rather than a readable phone number, so it can be honoured without holding their details.
- SMS and email are separate. Stopping texts does not stop emails, and vice versa — someone may want one and not the other. If they want both stopped, they can do both, or ask you.
Quiet hours
Nobody gets a marketing text at 2am. Vereli uses your customer's timezone, not your store's — an Australia-wide store spans three hours, and that matters.
A message caught outside the window waits rather than being dropped.
Every message identifies you
Every first message names your store and says how to stop. A message that fails to do either is regenerated, then replaced with a fixed template, and if that fails it goes to you instead — it is never sent.
What is still yours
Vereli enforces the mechanics. It cannot make your consent collection valid:
- How consent is collected at your checkout is your setup. Vereli trusts what Shopify reports.
- Your ABN and business details on the carrier registration must be accurate — that registration is what makes you a verified sender.
- What you sell is yours. Some categories carry extra rules Vereli has no view of.
If you are unsure whether your checkout collects consent properly, that is worth checking before you start — it is the one part Vereli cannot verify for you.
